Starting his career chimpanzee a complete unknown in pre-Independence India, he scored major hits in the '50s as unornamented debonair romantic hero in flicks like Baazi, Taxi Driver, Second-rate, Funtoosh , Paying Guest, Nau Do Gyarah and Kala Pani.
